Rider arrested, withdraws after 'dramatic' incident

Mathieu van der Poel has been charged with assault and had his passport seized after an alleged altercation in Wollongong on Saturday.

"He started from Helensburgh, but has since withdrawn, and we do have further news – the police from the St George Command in Sydney have taken Mathieu van der Poel's passport and he is due to appear in Sutherland Court on the 27th of September, so that's on Tuesday. "We don't know all the details and we don't want to speculate too much about it. Obviously, there was a report made to police about Mathieu."

"It's true, yes. There was a small dispute. It was about noisy neighbours and they are quite strict here," Van der Poel told Sporza. "It's further alleged the man then pushed both teenagers, with one falling to the ground and the other being pushed into a wall causing a minor graze to her elbow.

Not sure why you would bother tweeting about it when you have little interest in covering it on free to air. A world wide event like this deserves better than what you are providing. Please stay away from bidding on cycling events in the future.
