Aged Care Services Minister Richard Colbeck has defended his decision to go to the cricket on the same day he refused to front a Senate hearing on the government’s handling of the Omicron wave, revealed under public disclosure rules.

“Whilst the Department and I both recognise the importance of accountability to the Senate, including scrutiny of the Australian government’s COVID-19 response, I am concerned about the impact of the timing of this hearing,” he wrote on January 9. Senator Katy Gallagher and Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck during a Senate select committee hearing on COVID-19 last August.A spokesman for Senator Colbeck said any suggestion he had “put his sporting commitments ahead of the health and wellbeing of senior Australians” in aged care was “completely misguided” and he had attended the test in his capacity as Minister for Sport and Senator for Tasmania.of COVID-19 infections.

On January 14, the minister had dialled into meetings with COVID Vaccine and Response Taskforce Commander Lieutenant General John Frewen, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner and Acting Health Secretary and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, he said.

Dana_Adele The SMH part of Nine entertainment, fundraising and supporting the most incompetent government in Australia’s history and undermining every opportunity for Australia to be successful for their own petty ideological and partisan needs. How un Australian

Dana_Adele Obviously, not accountable to anyone. Makes me wonder why would anyone vote for him.

Dana_Adele I am wondering why the committee couldn’t find a date for the hearing when Mr Colbeck wasn’t wearing his Minister for sport cap. Was this another political ploy to make the Minister look more heartless than he has been in the past?

Dana_Adele Infrastructure Australia states a shortage of up to 105,000 skilled workers will 'put the delivery of the infrastructure investment pipeline at risk' The return of skilled applicants under 476visas is urgent to overcome this constraint. auspol 476visa

Dana_Adele There's nothing like accountability. Let's just forget the fact that he chose to go to the cricket instead of do the job he is being paid to do. He should just resign

Fancy having to write this stuff - and know there’s never the follow up article on the absolutely egregious failures of Colbeck, Morrison and Frydenberg to address the needs of those in aged care.

Dana_Adele Wow, disappointing

Dana_Adele Unbelievable that he would do that - more unbelievable he could get away with it!

Dana_Adele Clearly he couldn’t go because he had tickets to the cricket. I’d choose the cricket too I reckon.

Dana_Adele I don’t care he went to the cricket, he’s a Tasmanian and it was being played there for the first time. What I do find inappropriate is the reason he gave in his letter of response

Dana_Adele Really how There is no excuse.. but I’m sure the will find one. how would you feel if this was your loved one?

Dana_Adele ScottMorrisonMP, you can fire the idiot, or can read all about him during that election you are too scared to call. PS: The list isn't short!

Dana_Adele He's probably sick of politics infiltrating everything just like everyone else is!
