Their stricken 42-foot yacht was taking on water and pummelled by waves after it became stuck on a reef at Transit Rocks, near Thomson Bay just off Rottnest Island, at 8.30pm.Water Police scrambled to the spot first, telling the duo "don't abandon ship at the moment, we are coming to your location".Conditions were initially too dangerous for rescue crews. But 15 minutes later, the winds and their fate changed.
The yacht struck a reef at Transit Rocks, near Thomson Bay just off Rottnest Island near Perth and started taking on water. Emergency management specialist support division Inspector Steve Scott said the duo were lucky to be alive.Once rescued, the pair were assessed by paramedics. They suffered minor injuries, including a broken arm and some rib injuries.
