The federal and state governments will pour more than $500 million in additional funding into regional rail and road safety upgrades across Victoria to underpin hundreds of construction jobs and boost the struggling economy.

About $300 million of the new money will be put towards the Regional Rail Revival program, which is modernising the passenger rail network to all corners of the state with more track, more trains and increased services.

The federal and state governments agreed to fast-track infrastructure projects as part of the push to kickstart the economic recovery from the coronavirus recession. “This funding injection means we have brought forward or provided additional funding in excess of $830 million to Victoria in the past eight months," Mr Morrison said.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the road and rail projects would better connect Victorians and provide a boost for major regional centres.

And what is their contribution in $ in finding a treatment and cuer and actually having stocks in the country ready to go?

How about paying for more teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers in rural areas and encourage ppl to decentralise? Better services for regions doesn’t just equal slightly faster roads!

Great news unless you live in Western Victoria . Just look at the gaping hole in the Wimmera and Mallee. Especially between Nhill & Ararat via Horsham and Stawell there's an urgent need to return a commuter passenger rail service on tracks that are already passenger rated

Spend money on works that have high cost materials and low labour input? I doubt that will create a lot of jobs.

Kickstarting the economy maybe could include other jobs, like clerks, child care workers, teachers. Oh, wait, those are just women, MEN need jobs to support their families

More road safety upgrades? Like those wire barriers that interfere with the capacity for emergency services to respond to incidents on freeways? This Government hasn't the slightest clue as to how to create new, long-term jobs. Infrastructure isn't the sole answer.

The Age? Leftist ratbags, nil credibility.

COVID has highlighted an over reliance on China which needs addressing, but similarly in Australia, an over reliance on the bigger cities is clearly unhealthy for the country. ScottMorrisonMP this needs to be looked at for the future.

Just for blokes - the other 50% don’t matter

The six roads where Canberra drivers are most likely to hit a kangarooWinter is usually collision season in Canberra, when kangaroos come closer to roads in search of food. But a handful of factors have turned 2020 'upside down'. Will never forget the rainy Friday night a German friend of mine called me asking me to pick him up at Pialligo Ave. He was speeding through the pouring rain and hit a kangaroo there. His car was a wreck. It looked like he'd hit a power pole. Where the signs are? Defund the abc. KingSlayer33 Jane contribute to this story?
