It was a mystery that stumped police, a diary written during World War II and discovered on the floor of a supermarket on Sydney's north shore.
But the diary is now back in the hands of the author's family after being found more than 400km away. The diary was written by Margo Cooper, who served in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during World War II in 1943 and features many handwritten poems and photographs.Sadly, police discovered Mrs Cooper had died in 2011.But, following extensive inquiries that spanned across Australia, Senior Constable Carisa Parker and Senior Constable Colin Mitchell managed to track down Mrs Cooper's daughter, Rosie Gibson, who lives in Dubbo.
"I was so pleased when we found Rosie – when we called, she was just ecstatic because it was her mum," Senior Constable Parker said.
