earned the respect of 109 readers by summing it up this way: "Supermarkets didn’t cause the problem, some of the people you live among did, not just buying two weeks worth of some things, but months and months, OR profiteering. No one knew some people would be so greedy and selfish for so long, supermarkets have put in rationing of items. This seems to be helping. Not a total solution, but better.
It took me 10 seconds to find out from a polite chat with a friendly staff member.”had a different take on things. “If the supermarkets had reacted faster, they would have quelled the panic. But three weeks ago, we were told not to worry, ‘plenty of stock, we make toilet paper in Australia, plants are running 24x7’. And now, three weeks later, nothing has happened. Why should I believe we have all this food if I can’t buy it? It’s only natural to worry in these circumstances.
Do a story on the 2 huge Chinese development companies who had all their employees stop their usual jobs and just go out wiping Aust shelves of hundreds of thousands or millions of medical supplies inc panadol and sanitizer. That should answer your questions.
Yeah go and crack down on the containers leaving our shores to a certain country Tell them that. No you won't Weak as water Yeah and that's was a watered down reply
Why didn’t supermarkets implement purchasing limits immediately ?
Fucken peanuts
How about selling single or twin packs only limited to1 at a time? Have not seen any at local supermarket for at least 2 wks.
Do we need to point a finger, the purpose of which is to Offer support to those who mass buy!....Fear responses are innate.....for some they are more developed (lots of buying) and for others less developed (ignore social distancing).
Chinese are to blame for the mess the world is in
Endless empty supermarket shelf videos, photos of hoarders with full trolleys continuously, the media are the culprits.
ScottMorrisonMP The people & companies to blame are the main ones who bought it up like other medical supplies & sent it to China, on their private jet from ‘their own’ private airport - just ask mattjcan who is all over this. PLEASE DON’T LET THEM BUY ANY MORE OF OUR COUNTRY
Our behaviour is derived from our own perception which is completely dependable on what information we have received. We are all scared naturally and we are all in survival mode. Please don't blame people who are genuinely scared and panic buying. There is someone else to blame..
Shortages are perfectly normal in times of war and disease. Shops and govt need to quickly respond with rationing or pricing. Remember pricing? slomo Lockdownaustralia
Well.... I’m OK....

people not greedy and selfish? They are the kind Australian governments encouraged for decades, the hoarders, the whole purpose of this country has been to accumulate, anything and everything.
This was the first week when this bullshit started! It should have been stopped then!
When this is all over, hopefully we will find out the truth about what really happened to the toilet paper.
Seriously!? Who writes this shit? You’ve got daily evidence of how selfish humanity can be! As soon as people started taking excessive amounts supermarkets should’ve enforced a cap. This would’ve been obvious after 10 minutes!
The media did by constantly reporting on empty shelves!
Oh please. What world have you been living in Pollyannas?
Could a reason be that people are doing their number twos more often these days? And dumping bigger and heavier loads?
Greedy people. It it comes to the worst, these are the people who'll turn cannibal. Read The Road. They're in there.
Some people are just fuckwits, whether rich or poor, educated or not, white or black, stupid people are all around us.
If people want to buy 50 packs of toilet paper, why can't they? Do we no longer have free markets in Australia anymore? Do you expect us all to live Soviet peasants in breadlines for our rations?
People aren't stripping the shelves now.... when a supermarket only gets in 48 packets and there is a limit of one per customer only 48 people get toilet rolls. My town has 54,000 people 3 supermarkets That's 144 packets Whose fault is it now?
Blame their parents who did not teach them how to think straight.
Yes totally agree! There wouldn't be toilet paper issue if people didn't suddenly bought yr-worth of toilet rolls. 😅😅
Dumb horders
I hope they’re embarrassed
It is simple maths. A crisis brings out the best and worst in people. The very best and the very worst.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet your neighbours.
They also didn't take into account the Chinese factor of send it all back and those here in Australia who would hoard for high price selling.
It was people, no debate.
The Chinese shoppers have been like locusts, but who was their ring master? Who told them what to panic buy one day to the next?
Lol this article should be called Things we already knew
The only people I have personally seen buying bulk have been Chinese. Potato chips, water, toilet paper. They act with a herd like mentality and then you walk down the isle the next day you see that item is gone from the shelves.
I have been disgusted at the actions of people at supermarkets. I come from an old Victorian Chinese family and proud of it. However I have no pride in the Chinese who pillage supermarket shelves for their own profit. These people are temporary residents and should be outed.
Could be panic set in from poor communication and assurance from the government. Just saying.
Hang on, aren’t we all in this together? I’m sure I keep hearing that
I still don’t get why toilet paper was the go to for this pandemic :)... I would’ve thought spam or some canned food. Toilet paper? Wth!
What a time to be alive covid19australia
It was Coles & Woolworths you let a duopoly put in the only supply chain.... Average joe punters get screwed
