Doctors across fire-ravaged southern NSW say they’re facing equipment shortages amid the COVID-19 health crisis and are pleading for people to stay away from regional areas which will not be able to cope with an inundation of critical patients | Rabe9

He said the personal protective equipment shortage wasn't limited to GP clinics, and hospitals across the region were struggling with their supply. He added the messaging from government on social-distancing and isolation had been clear and appropriate.

Dr Rivett, whose patients are being asked to wait in their cars outside his Batemans Bay clinic, pleaded with people to reconsider travelling to regional areas if they may be infected. "It's very bad for the community, they need to move on so they can get on with their lives, so that's very depressing and now this coronavirus is the next one, and we just don't know what sort of effect it's going to have. It's going to be tough times," he said.

At the same press conference, Professor Michael Kidd, from the Chief Medical Officer’s team, said they were working to ensure rural communities had "access to the same high-quality primary care" as those in Australian cities.
