Shadow Housing Minister Jason Clare says if Labor had won the last election, it would have “been a priority for us to be a part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership , to help seal the deal”. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and 15 other world leaders are at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to discuss the RCEP trade deal, which is set to cover 30 per cent of global gross domestic product and nearly half the world's population.
Mr Clare told Sky News “anything that brings together 15 or 16 countries of the Indo-Pacific into a trade agreement and helps to create more open markets and trade for Australian businesses is fundamentally a good thing”. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership would include all 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as well as Japan, China, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
