Police will be asked to lay charges after activists chanting “stop coal, stop gas” derailed parliamentary proceedings.

Activists have smuggled protest props “hidden under skirts, shawls” and through the wheelchair access at Queensland parliament to avoid being picked up by metal detectors.

The protest, in which the group chanted “stop coal, stop gas” from the public viewing area, was claimed by Extinction Rebellion, which criticised the state government for its emissions reduction target amid aParliamentary rules, and the Criminal Code, ban any disturbance of proceedings from the public gallery. Visitors are required to turn in phones and bags on entry.
