This police officer was doing his job when he was shot in cold blood. Now, as retirement looms, he wants to find who almost killed him.

Senior Constable Neil Scutts choked up on Monday as he recounted the moment he was shot in the leg in cold blood more than 20 years ago.

Senior Constable Scutts and another officer were called to the National Australia Bank at Browns Plains, south of Brisbane, on the morning of March 24, 1999. Senior Constable Neil Scutts said in some ways he was glad it was him who was shot, not the hostages. Picture: Peter Wallis“My hands were in the air,” he said, adding he was waiting for them to tell him what to do next.“Unfortunately for me that direction never came, they just shot me.”

The Queensland police officer was lucky to survive, with the bullet missing his femoral artery by just millimetres.
