Desperate business owners across Queensland are crossing their fingers as Premier AnnastaciaMP heads into a crucial national cabinet meeting today.

Desperate business owners across Queensland are crossing their fingers as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk heads into a crucial national cabinet meeting today. Queensland's border reopening has been thrown into doubt after Victoria recorded a surge in coronavirus cases in the past week. Premier Palaszczuk is expected to reopen state borders on July 10 when Queensland enters stage three of its road to recovery roadmap.

However, any opening would require all Victorian travellers to quarantine for a mandatory 14 day period. Despite people being under the impression borders would reopen under stage three, Ms Palaszczuk said no decision would be made until she reassessed the situation at the end of June. Business operators, namely in the tourism sector, have been outspoken about the need for borders to reopen to save the decimated sector.

Qld considering quarantining travellers from Victorian COVID hotspots to isolate | Sky News AustraliaQueensland is considering forcing travellers from COVID-19 hotspots in Victoria to self-isolate for 14 days in a bid to slow the spread of the disease around the country.\n\nSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennelll says National Cabinet will discuss the proposal this Friday.\n\nOne idea being kicked around behind the scenes by some states, including Queensland, ahead of national cabinet this Friday I understand is to reopen borders, say with Queensland sticking to its original date of July 10, but introduce a requirement to isolate for 14 days for anyone travelling from the relevant Victorian hotspots and impose heavy fines for those who do not adhere to this,” he said.\n\nThis could be introduced in Queensland and NSW.\n\nThe Federal Government has pledged to assist Victoria after a small surge in COVID-19 cases.\n\nVictoria’s Chief Health Officer Dr Brett Sutton today confirmed the death of an elderly man, bringing the state's death toll to 20 after experiencing no deaths since May 23.\n\nMr Sutton also confirmed 20 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,884.\n\nMr Clennell said the government is considering bringing in the army to assist Victoria with its COVID-19 response.\nI am told the army will be providing logistics and planning support to Victoria,”he said.\n\n“Too early to see if they will also be asked to assist with hotel quarantine policing and contact tracing.”\n aclennell There are 6.5 million people living in Victoria. If 10% of the population had CV-19, that would be 650,000 people. If 1% 65,000 people. If 0.1% 6,500 people. If 0.01% 650 people. The actual number of people in Victoria who now have the CV-19 is now 121. That is 0.002% calmdown aclennell Govt should enforce this... but can Qld trust pesky Vics? aclennell See this GladysB ? If you close the Victoria border NSW residents might get a pass to enter WA, QLD, SA etc which would perhaps result in a vast improvement for the economic recovery. Have some bloody gumption woman !!

WA to follow Qld in passing legislation to 'financially rig' the next election | Sky News AustraliaThe Labor government in Western Australia is attempting to follow in the footsteps of Queensland Labor and pass legislation to “financially rig” the next election, according to Sky News host Paul Murray.\n\nIn Queensland, the ALP have passed legislation giving all unions a combined $1.7 million spending budget per seat while limiting the spending power of parties, candidates, and other groups with no union connections, to $149,000.\n\nUnder the proposed new Western Australia election rules an independent or party candidate could not spend over $125,000 and each union or third party would have a two million state-wide spending limit.\n\nMr Murray said there were at least 25 active unions in Western Australia which meant a combined union spending across the state would amount to $56 million while political party spending of the amounted to approximately $8.1 million.\n\nHe said the problem was under the new legislation unions are treated as completely independent despite the fact they are major supporters of the ALP.\n\nThe Liberals, Nationals, One Nation, the Greens, Palmer United, Shooters and Fishers and any other registered party in Western Australia would be disadvantaged if this legislation were to be passed. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia Let’s see if they do it in the same sneaky way the Qld govt did! ALP corrupting our institutions. Sky News is shit. Thje US business model of profiting from cultural division is not something Australia needs to follow. The ‘erosion of the medical practice’ by Qld government must be an election issue | Sky News AustraliaThe erosion of the medical practice and the way in which health care is delivered in Queensland must be an important issue in the upcoming October election according to Queensland AMA Vice President Dr Bav Manoharan.\n\n“The Queensland government and successive Queensland governments have for many many years ignored our advice and ignored the advice of medical experts and health experts,” Dr Manoharan told Sky News host Peta Credlin.\n\nDr Manoharan said the state government has actively engaged in ‘scope creep’ whereby it broadens the purview of specific medical practitioners, often against medical advice. \n\nThe Palaszczuk government has attempted to legislate giving pharmacists the ability to prescribe which he said is being “pushed by the Pharmacy Guild,” which represents businesses, but actual doctors and pharmacists oppose the move.\n\n“We just want to make sure patients are put in the centre of Queensland’s healthcare system”.\n
