“I love cooking on gas too, but there are certain luxuries that we are going to have to abandon if we are serious about climate change”

Gas appliances including heaters, hot water services and cooktops would be phased out under a proposed moratorium on new gas connections to Victorian households to help the state achieve its 2030 target to cut carbon emissions by up to 50 per cent.

“I love cooking on gas too, but there are certain luxuries that we are going to have to abandon if we are serious about climate change,” City of Yarra mayor Gabrielle de Vietri said.About 19 per cent of Australia’s emissions come from natural gas,, and almost half of the nation’s total residential gas consumption is used solely to heat Victorian homes.

Tony Wood, energy program director at the Grattan Institute, said a moratorium on gas connections in other states made clear sense due to their relatively low usage. “My suspicion is electricity is the answer but the journey would not be without challenges. No one is going to like being told you can’t have a gas stove any more but it might have to happen.”Environment Victoria campaigns manager Nicholas Aberle said there was significant momentum to shift away from gas in households.

Energy poverty in Europe due to climate policies. People dying in their homes because they can't afford to heat them. I can't wait for that here!

You can’t be serious

My ducted gas heating is in its last legs so ‘Subsidies to cut over for all’ is my view.

Gas for cooking uses v little. Gas for heating and hot water will be a more important issue to be sorted. Good to have subsidies to help people swap.

There’s the cost of appliances. Then there’s the cost of cookwear too! And honestly, split systems won’t effectively heat a modern home as well as ducted. Continuous hot water?

Sigh. City of Yarra again.

So, will they stop those flares outside of the casino?

A silent move, the Aussie BBQ is fucked

So now we are picking on gas cooking for climate change. Like really? Love gas cooking!

Let’s all go for mini nuclear power generators!! Utter stupidity to suggest abandoning gas cooking

Yea why Adam Bandt and his drugged Greens sit in Brunswick st Fitzroy Office with their air conditioner and electric heater on while wanking

Stupid Idea. We will become to reliant on one form of energy. Gas is an efficient means of cooking and heating the home

An unnecessary burden on people, it's business consumption you need to look at. Gas appliances come with an efficiency rating already legislated in building code for new homes/additions. Consumer switch from gas to electric will happen organically when electric becomes cheaper.

If these climate death cultists have their way you'll be cooking bug meat over a wood fire and drinking recycled sewage.

Electricity is just as good. Had gas at one property where I lived. It wasn’t as good as a modern electric cooktop. And was a pain in the rear to clean.

Don't talk rubbish. I'm not going back to burning wood in the backyard to cook meat.

We need a Federal Government who will take climate change seriously

Lol no thanks.

'We need a workforce': Farmers, businesses in quarantine facility pushAgriculture and hospitality groups propose another Howard Springs-style quarantine village outside Darwin, to bring in much-needed overseas workers. Do we need to buy steel and tools from China? 🤣 steel manufacturing business employment The govt knows it will cost a million dollars for each soul to build quarantine facilities; so we just hold off hoping it will go away and spend the money on the defence budget. So who are we borrowing from? Do Farmers realise there are 780,000 unemployed people, and millions more underemployed people, right here in Australia? Farmers just need to get off their behinds and pay market clearing wages & conditions rather than pushing for imported slave labour.
