The Herald's View: Public transport failures will rebound on government at state election

The delayed return of the entire fleet of Sydney’s inner west trams to service adds to a growing list of bungles and disruptions to public transport that will make the state government’s election prospects more precarious.

A fleet of Korean-built intercity trains ... sits in storage on the NSW Central Coast at a cost of $30 million a month to taxpayers. Meanwhile, a separate fleet of Korean-built intercity trains, first slated to begin entering service in 2019, still sits in storage on the NSW Central Coast at a cost of $30 million a month to taxpayers. The fleet is at the centre of a protracted dispute between the state government and rail unions, leading to ongoing disruptions to commuter services and widespread anger from the public.an example

While hindsight shows that the quality of new trains and ferries has suffered as a result of overseas procurement, the cost of re-establishing a viable industry in manufacturing transport infrastructure would be considered too high and an unrealistic proposition for government in the short term.

maybe the unions and the maintenance crew could coordinate the closing down days

Buying into Minns’s BS about ‘forrin’ transport assets is so weak. None of the issues (and there are issues) are because things weren’t ‘made in NSW’ At least you didn’t repeat lies about trains too big for the tracks for once
