Critics have launched a campaign to remove the large mural painted on a wall outside a retail shop in Sydney's south, claiming it is inappropriate and offensive | JoshDye91

The counter-petition claims the artwork adds "both culture and flavour to our streets" and should be protected to ensure "freedom of expression and or free speech".

"It's probably not the best piece of art you could put up, but people interpret art differently," Cr Pesce said. "I've had a couple of the older councillors think it promotes abuse. I don't see that. I interpret three women who have gone out and had a big night." The artist, who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of backlash, said he was bemused the mural had attracted controversy as he had painted it last year.

"When your intention is to combat illegal graffiti-writing on a problematic graffiti wall by means of painting a picture on it, that picture may resonate with the youth of today more so than with the demographic of people who claim to be offended.

JoshDye91 Censorious critics seek removal of great mural of 'Miranda' (my suggested name) painted by young male Indigenous artist. Opinion about removal is divided and may give credence to somewhat misogynistic old adage 'what's one mans tart, is another man's art'.

JoshDye91 Looks like an advertisement for prostitution and smoking. I assume it’s for a sleazy ‘Adult Shop/ Massage Parlor’.

JoshDye91 How good are murals?

JoshDye91 I live near this and it’s a fantastic mural. Busy body person with nothing better to do having a whinge is getting beaten in the petitions.

JoshDye91 Thanks for bringing it to our attention, however irrelevant to the topic

JoshDye91 They might prefer Michaelangelo's David's appendage or a gaggle of Goyas

JoshDye91 when I take my kids to the shopping mall I find half-naked females as lingerie models with prostitutes like poses on the wall of shops 10 times bigger in size more offensive than this.

JoshDye91 Would this be more appropriate?

JoshDye91 Looks great, better than graffiti. Don’t let the Shire Karens win.

JoshDye91 What about alcoholic drink GIN? If Political correctness and associated time spending talk continues it cannot be in a country where Gin is used in a way not fitting of a aboriginal politician surely? Look into it first SMH its on all these grog bottles worldwide? You missed it?
