In past years, it was easier for racing punters to ignore the protestors’ grim chants. Not so this year

“I think it’s a pretty piss-poor performance,” said Ethan Foster, referring to the horseracing protesters.

“People don’t mean to do whatever to horses on purpose. It’s just a job,” added friend Daniel Worsley as they waited to head into the track. The third member of the trio, Joe Bolton, worked in the horse industry. “[I’ve seen] the horses more than [the protesters] would see them, and they get looked after as good as any pet in a backyard; it’s incredible,” he said."If you have a bad horse, you have a bad horse. What do you do with a bad horse?”On the other side of a wire barrier, about 40 protesters from the Coalition for the Protection of Race Horses yelled their answer: "a bullet to the head".

Their numbers had swelled after the ABC’s story. “People have been calling us and crying on the phone,” protest spokeswoman Kristin Leigh said.

No, you're exactly right...

Actually it was easy to ignore , they are there every year, it’s the same rag tag bunch of nobodies and fringe dwellers and there was no increase in protester numbers yesterday . They were just being mocked . 👍🐎

Of course let’s decimate the horse racing industry. Does anyone know how many mouths and mortgages this industry feeds?

Maybe the should do more than protest and take on the care and feeding of a horse after it’s finished racing.

The whipping, the “jigging”, the muscle and joint injuries, fractures, musculoskeletal trauma, ruptured ligaments, painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs and other medications, pulmonary haemorrhaging, and now the slaughterhouses.. But but the race that stops the nation..

One of the most disgusting things is that many of the Spring Carnival goers aren’t even really into racing. They just go for the piss up and a flutter. The indifference is shameful.

Good! The racing industry is a disgrace.

Good

No. Not at all

There's still an elephant in the room! Aussies spend over $18b pa on all forms of gambling or $1500 per capita NB: NZ($495), CA($393) &US ($325) State tax revenue from gambling was $5b in 2008-09 (or 10% of all state tax rev) The social cost of problem gambling is $4.7b a year

What are the odds on this? bredtobutcher

An inconvenient truth for those who want to dress up and drink the bubbly at the expense of our equine friends.

It’s still pretty easy to ignore them

F the protesters and f The age and their fake news. Now give me a mortadella roll.

A good protest would be to destroy any racecourses ... can you imagine the faces on these maggots turning up and being told the races have been cancelled due to no where to race 😂😂😂😂

If it’s a bad horse you DONT kill it u idiot .. give it to someone that will take care of it into it’s time ffs

Can we get the water cannon out for these bums

Hope they give them hell..

Good. How anyone could “ignore” this is beyond me.

Well done to the protesters ✊🏼

good.

Fuck the racing industry, anyone who supports that industry endorses the cruelty of animals.

That poor women She would have been smashed with abuse 🤪🤪🤪
