Former corporate lawyer Jeannie-Marie Noyce found quick success with her app to help families communicate with parents in aged-care, but she knows she’s the exception.

The government is now extending the program to include a Female Founder Connect Pilot, a structured networking course aimed at helping female founders connect with networks, programs, customers, mentors, grants and funding. Skills and Training Minister Alister Henskens said the initiative would pay off for the economy more broadly.“We know the wealth of capabilities and creativity that women bring to business, which can generate new jobs and accelerate NSW’s economic growth,” he said.

She participated in the course from her base in northern NSW over the eight weeks before flying to Sydney for a final, invitational component where she pitched her business to a panel of investors, accelerator representatives, and NSW government representatives including Mr Henskens at Sydney’s Startup Hub.

“Even now people look back at [the original funding round] and they are horrified by the amount of equity we gave away. But now from the Female Founders Program, we’ve had interest from investors who have different ideas about structuring,” she said. “It often came down to a discussion of whether I’d be having more children and things like that which shouldn’t be questions,” Ms Morton said of her first-round funding.
