A professional baby namer says new parents are now choosing names that sound “cool” as an Instagram or TikTok handle. Steph Coffield, from Minnesota in the US, helps parents-to-be choose the perfect moniker for their child — charging up to $500 . A mum herself, the 40-year-old said unique baby names are becoming more popular — and it has a lot to do with social media. The most surprising new trend, Coffield said, is parents choosing names that work well as social media handles.
“I was getting so many requests I had to start charging for it,” she said. She said she believes masculine girl names and last names used as first names will be big trends in 2024. “People are going with Barrett for boys,” she said. “For girls, I’m seeing a lot more masculine names, not just Logan and James any more but Denver and Murphy.” Coffield said she also believed names ending in “ie” or “y” would be popular this year.
