The Prime Minister is standing by his decision to push ahead with the religious discrimination act without making changes to protect gay students at the same time.Moderate Liberals say they want the government to pursue the religious discrimination act and changes to the sex discrimination act at the same timeMr Morrison said on Saturday: "We will deal with RDA first", with Scott Morrison saying it would better protect faith communities from religious discrimination.
Plans were also put in place to amend a section of the sex discrimination act at the same time so students would not be expelled on the basis of their sexual orientation. Those changes were introduced after concerns were raised by Labor and some moderate Liberals about the need for protections for LGBTQI children in religious schools.
However, Mr Morrison has said he will handle the matter differently if re-elected. And today he defended his decision to push ahead with the religious discrimination act as a standalone piece of legislation. "[The sex discrimination act will] be a separate issue and that would be a function of being able to deal with the other matter first," he said.Election news:
On would wonder why he is persevering with this. Things are just fine the way they are. Has Morrison not got the message that we are a secular country with church and state being separate. Why is parliament getting involved in something that is not broken.
Morrison announces a plan to make every Australian healthy, wealthy, and wise. And you parrot it, as if he has any intention of carrying it out. And as if you aren't aware of his record.
Scomo's is just a way so Pentacostal churches like his can dictate how we should all live, where women are second class citizens and baby breeders. Where LGBTQ are discriminated against and ostrasized. Where religion dictates politics. No thank you Scomo. You need to go.
Any secular country must not recognise any religion. Religion is a personal choice, no one has a right to influence or interfere. All governments must say NO to religion
It’s time to expunge the conservative religious right from having any power in the LNP.
Time to go....
We don’t need it
How about something important like rebalancing social wealth? Particularly making billionaires pay tax, and if they don't! Seize their assets! Now that is an election winning goal! This is just Scomo pushing his own agendas, wow I'm unimpressed.
Do we need a USA style religious politcal party system.
This bill is not needed. Justifying hatred because religious beliefs is wrong. Do you really thing it’s going to end with LGBT community. No this would be used discriminate against other religions and plunging Australia into being Nth Ireland or Israel of Southern Hemisphere
Alt-ICAC: go to confession.
This is another reason Morrison should go on 21 May. We do not need this divisive legislation. He has already given us the highest level of debt ever and wasted billions in handouts to his mates and cancelled contract. He is destroying the NDIS and Aged Care. Enough is enough!
Why are you lawing everything. Stop writing laws and do stuff.
Discrimination is on the grounds of age, disability, race, ethnic origin and cultural background, skin colour, and sex. These are mainly physical entities. Religion should already be recognised as cultural discrimination. Why does it need to be a separate entity?
scottydon’t
I watch ABC regularly, and this is the most informative thing Ive seen on this
Religion it’s not supposed to be part of a politics
Bring it on Scotty, the High court loves discrimination.
Yep and I’ve already taken action to tell him what I think about it…I voted!
But no time for an effective ICAC
Why now?
scomo doing what he does best, standing by😀
why. it is so not needed. to protect his hillsong mates
pm kirribillihillbillies takes immense pleasure in being the most divisive dumpster in Australian history.
A great reason why to not vote for any LNP candidate
Booooooooo
abcnews The unashamed Labor Party propaganda machine!!! Still man hating Ita
He means how many in the churches have abused and discriminated against people, surely.
Of course he does. He owes it to the godfathering lobbies that propelled him ton the leadership and the Lodge the first time. It's a promise he'll never have to honour but one that might gain him a few more votes among the Exclusive Bretheren in Tassie.
Maybe Scomo should apply for the Pope's position?
Religion has no place in politics
👿
A dud!
But a federal integrity commission is no longer an objective
political_alert
political_alert No proper ICAC but the Jesus folk….
SeparationOfChurchAndState
Is a religious discrimination Bill what Morrison is putting up instead of actual policy? It's not in the same league as Labors policy for repairing the Child/Health/Aged Care systems is it? Morrison has no plan or vision for the future of Australia.
he is obsessed
Nothing wtong with discrimination it they're on your side.
He will trample on all minorities if he wins- even the few caring Libs, who clearly are a minority.
Morrison has done so many mean things to so many people it's hard to know where to start.
ScoMo’s treatment of women in the Australian Parliament 🤮
BetterGetALawyerScott
Is he really up to being PM
Our PM believes in a sky fairy, let that sink in...
Very noble of him to try to save his job by offering trans blood and suffering at the altar of religious bigotry
Along with the rorting, our budding theocracy is another good reason to get rid of this guy and his cronies. auspol
Hasn’t he whistled all those dogs by now ?
Will he claim he has a mandate if re-elected? Probably...
He does love hiding behind religion to discriminate, so no surprise!
He's a phony! He used to be with The Brethren! He wrote his uni thesis on it. See my previous tweet today with the attachment.
Translates to the abortion bill..
We're doing just fine without one thanks
