As Australia burns and more than 20 people have so far lost their lives, the demands for more so-called hazard-reduction burning are getting louder. Here are some of the issues in this highly contested debate | p_hannam liammannix

Australia is enduring a summer from Hades, still unfolding across its drought-hit lands, with more than 20 deaths and the incineration of thousands of homes and millions of hectares of forests.

"Prescribed burning" is an equivalent term favoured by researchers, while "controlled" or "planned" burning are alternatives. "We have stories, we have research documents, that state that when first settlers were coming into our areas, they saw smoke plumes across the country," says Trent Nelson, chairman of the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation.AdvertisementGovernments in Victoria and NSW say they have generally been meeting their main targets although the past year has been difficult as the widening drought raised the risk of fires escaping control.

In 2015, Victoria shifted to an aim of lowering so-called residual risk by 30 per cent. Each region of the state has threats modelled and steps taken - using fires or mechanical means such as thinning forests - to cut it."We're always going to carry a substantial residual risk," said Ross Bradstock, Director of the Centre for Environmental Risk Management of Bushfires at the University of Wollongong. "Fire risk is always going to be [there].

p_hannam liammannix Did you even read the article & subsequent comments? ‘Calls Getting louder’ is not accurate at all

p_hannam liammannix 'so called' ? How deluded 🤦‍♀️

p_hannam liammannix When I was a kid sky always full of smoke from back burns in the winter. Hardly ever had serious bushfires.

p_hannam liammannix I thought indigenous folk had been doing it forever? Empower

p_hannam liammannix Its arson by design. Land clearing to destroy towns to make way for high speed rail and smart cities. People won't be allowed to rebuild, insurance won't allow. 'Too dangerous.' Agenda21 Agenda2030 arson highspeedrail CLARA

p_hannam liammannix This debate is not contentious if you have listened to the NSWRFS CFSAlerts CFA_Updates because it is they who determine. No Gov of any level has control of Hazard Reductions (prior) or Back Burning (during/after). You need to stop your inaccuracies. Lest of all the Greens.

SeanBradbery p_hannam liammannix this is not a highly contested debate. stop normalizing liars.

p_hannam liammannix Some SICKLY SCUM AuMSM Feed Off🔥CRISIS Sweeping Australia 2 Inform Victims/Voters via Climate$Lie! 📢'Climate!'NO Facts/Trigger? Unite +🙏4 Devastated Victims of Bush🔥Crisis Caught in the Cross🔥by UN$Scam! NEVER FORGETARSON/Climate$Activism CAUSED🔥

p_hannam liammannix it's states and councils' wilful neglect of fire reduction hazard and don't let their actions be whitewashed as happened after official 'let it burn' policy destroyed half of Canberra

p_hannam liammannix Great article explaining this contentious issue

p_hannam liammannix The focus should be on those who have been asleep at the 'wheel', so when it comes to 'management' of the NSW National Parks that's Matt_KeanMP the Minister! AND GladysB who was too busy knocking down, & spending NSWRFS $$$'s, and building a new Stadium!! nswpol

p_hannam liammannix Fuel reduction is certainly not contested as a hazard reduction.

p_hannam liammannix Someone give V_Steffensen a bloody shout...he’d love to fo some workshops I’m sure 👍

p_hannam liammannix This awful arson crisis. 170 people now arrrested.

p_hannam liammannix We had such a dry winter in some of the worst affected areas. In some parts there was zero or close to zero rainfall for the entire month of August 2019. The lack of water has had compounding effect

Australian bushfires: NSW Environment Minister calls for more hazard reduction in nationals parks.Matt Kean says increased hazard reduction needed to be included in a review of bushfire management in nationals parks in order to respond to climate change. AlexSmithSMH CroweDM I think this current burn will take care of any hazards for the next 5 years before anything grows back. Maybe use the time to construct a PROPER climate change policy. AlexSmithSMH CroweDM Fuel is not just within National Parks all land managers (local govt, state departments, private holdings) have obligations to manage fuel under S.63 of Rural Fires Act. AlexSmithSMH CroweDM AlexSmithSMH CroweDM The LNP govt doesn't have the emotional capacity to lead under the ongoing climateemergency. They have a myopic understanding of the dynamics & overall situation. Media needs to seriously wake up too. Abrupt widespread changes are happening now - auspol
