The nation's pollsters are facing calls for greater transparency and an overhaul of their number-crunching after spectacularly missing the result of the federal election ausvotes

None of the major national pollsters accurately forecast the result, with all putting Labor in a winning position. Combined, Newspoll, Ipsos, Essential and Morgan had Labor 51.7 to 48.3 in front on a two-party preferred basis.

YouGov Galaxy managing director David Briggs said it was the worst result by Australian pollsters on record. Mr Briggs said his company would be looking carefully at how it had missed the result, although he did not want to "fire from the hip".He said the company's seat-by-seat polls, which had come in for criticism at past elections, had done comparatively well in the run-up to polling day.

In the wake of Major's victory, British pollsters met to discuss what went wrong. Ms Elgood said that might be an option for Australian pollsters.

The BIGGEST CON by the 'EXPERT'!!

Shouldn't that be failed AGAIN?

Lol. 95% unsure!? Are they sure?

Professional Polls are a constant source of comedy. Please don't change it.

The same polls that predicted Labor to win at the last election. AusVotes2019 Ausvotes

E X P E R T S

95%? How about we screwed it up 😀

I kept telling it was down to PPM 47-40 I backem on that!

In the history of this country. Whenever the polls are really close the government always win. 11 out of 11 times this has happened, it happened in 2010 and in 2016 alone

LNP probably had been front in last 12 months. Ban pollsters, nothing wrong with listening to real concerns thru more public forums. That is the way to formulate policies and elect leaders, NOT polls.

Polls went wrong because 1) The sampling is not random 2) The left and the media ostracizes anyone not agreeing with them so people don’t express what they truely feel/want in polls and, perhaps 3) They don’t have methodologies to correct numbers for Miracles :)

But if you exclude QLD, Labor wins (or if QLD voting mirrored national). So how close were the polls (apart from QLD? auspol19 AusVotes2019

Yes bc it’s the people who were confused fault that the coalition got in. 😐

politicaltragic I don’t blame them, I blame media

Get rid of the polling. They are wrong and yet they were used to remove sitting PMs

If they add in the margin of error, + or - 2% they are correct. Statistics 101 but it’s never mentioned. With such a small sample size the MOR is at least 2%.

Most of the final polls and actual results fell within the margin of error 2.9%. It is just whatever reason the Coalition managed to overperform and Labor underperform by 2.6%.

Ive seen pretty much every place of opperation in the public life. Ive never been asked to take a poll. I have never met one other human who has taken a poll. I know not one human anywhere whos ever heard of one australian taking a poll. Its bunch of rubbish

Be interesting to see how many polls were conducted in rural/regional areas and the results.

They got it wrong because either they asked the wrong question or they don’t really ask anyone. I’ve been in this country 27 years and had voted in countless elections, but I’ve never been polled-ever! Let’s see some hands, have you been polled at least once?

exit poll- labor 54-46 lnp 😉

Question who did the polling and their political leanings.

To be fair, the polls only measure public opinion, not electoral fraud

Interesting SA pollsters were also way of the mark in the recent National and Provincial elections.

jurylady5 The Polls weren't Wrong! The Election Outcome did not reflect the Mood on the Street! It Stinks! Big Time!

Finally. Can we now just not do polls ?

From October '100 per cent renewables' won't just be talk for CanberraCanberra will be effectively powered by renewable energy from October 1, according to the ACT's Climate Change Minister. Get ready for sky-rocketing electricity prices Canberra. If Labour win we won't get 100% renewables. A fortune will be spent. Once the realisation that it is not practical to store large quantities of electricity dawns on them a few coal fired stations will be restarted.
