Officers may use special stop-and-search powers in Melbourne's west following a fatal attack on a 15-year-old boy outside a suburban shopping centre

It is alleged he was approached by a group of eight to 10 teenagers wielding knives and baseball bats about 4pm in a car park at the centre, opposite his family's church.

Police are also speaking with friends, families, schools and community leaders who are known to the young people involved, to "alleviate tensions and ensure they're aware of the behaviour and the risks involved with any further violence"."Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to put a stop to this behaviour," they said.

Fifteen young people have since been arrested and charged with affray-related offences over the Hoppers Crossing brawl. "Over the next couple of days police will be proactively patrolling shopping centres and community locations to ensure people feel safe, and are safe," police said.

When i was growing up we were shit scared of the police. These kids need 80s policing

Stop and search who? We don't have gangs according to our 'morally superior' leftist friends.

😡The reason why these kids do crimes is they are not scared of the police or the law. No respect at all. Until stricter law & punishment is put in place, this will continue. Jail them all, lower the age of accountability & try them as adults. Enough of limp system. RIPSolomone.

No gangs according to DanielAndrewsMP

NSW Police officers' alleged assault revealed in confronting bodycam footage'Let go of her, let go of her.' Confronting bodycam vision has been released of a NSW arrest, where a policewoman was punched in the face multiple times and had hair ripped from her scalp. 9News Well done to the nswpolice. I was told years ago by a retired Sergeant that a domestic is just a dress rehearsal for a murder scene. This bloke should’ve not resisted his arrest. Policelivesmattertoo PoliceLivesMatter This narrative lately that all cops are scum is going to lead to increased attacks on cops. They have a tough job. We want the bad cops removed and punished for any crimes. And system changes. But sweeping judgements about an entire profession that I've seen lately, is wrong. 👎 These abhorrent assaults must stop! Police conduct of late has been media micro-scoped, many times unfairly criticized. Sadly, police can second guess their actions. This offender was lucky not to be shot let alone elbowed, punched or tasered. SupportPolice RespectPolice
