Prime Minister Scott Morrison has tried to shame Labor in the Chinese community over its pursuit of Liberal MP Gladys Liu but has come under fire for his own language in past disputes over political donations.
But Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese returned the attack after Mr Morrison appeared to deny using the phrase “Shanghai Sam” to describe former Labor senatorafter revelations about his links to Chinese interests in Australia. "The Labor Party are sparing no effort in their attempt to smear Gladys Liu but I will stand up and defend her and all Chinese Australians because they have made great contributions to Australia with a sincere heart,” Mr Morrison said.
