"There is critical need to get accurate information on the distribution of butterflies. Such data will assist in conservation planning and decision-making regarding land use," Professor Braby said.
Mr Sanderson hopes that a species of butterfly that hasn't been seen in Queensland and Northern New South Wales for almost 20 years may be spotted.
