Opinion: I understand why “please” and “thank you” are drilled into us. We want people to be grateful. But what about those who express their gratitude in different ways?

I’d rather have authentic, unique interactions than the same meandering, “polite” conversation again and again. Why would I want to hear about the weather when I can get a detailed description of how to properly slaughter a pig at full volume in a quiet cafe?On top of putting neurodivergent people at a disadvantage, I think we’re all aware of the classist undertones of “etiquette”.

Knowing what silverware to use has long been a way to separate yourself from the proletariat scum, so I’m not sure why people are clinging to the echoes of it all, especially since having a bogan twang means your opinions actually matter now . All the important parts of manners are covered by being kind and showing that you care. Start dictating how that should and shouldn’t be done sets good people up to fail and bad people up to succeed.

No, we can continue to use basic manners.

Nah, I’ll focus on good manners.

'Please' and 'thank you' are fake and as meaningless as 'how are you' or 'pleased to meet you' ...and other.

How much should I drink? Why no single study will ever answer that questionEven the experts can’t agree on safe levels of alcohol consumption, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us should drink as we please. So, this is confusing indeed!! Whatever the answer the message is that as a nation we drink too much. If we reduce the average then the problem toll will fall. More tax on alcohol based on the % in the bottle. Answer tied to another question: why do you drink?
