Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a step closer to making history after day one of her US Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill.
Ms Jackson is US President Joe Biden's first pick for the court, but said she plans to decide cases from a "neutral posture". Democrats are hoping for a quick process, which could be completed by early April, but Republicans have vowed to ask "tough questions" in the days ahead. Now 51, Ms Jackson first fell in love with the law when she four years old.
"She knows who she is, and she remembers where she comes from," Antoinette Coakley, one of Ms Brown's college roommates and close friends,"Her parents are graduates of historically Black colleges, they're accomplished people in their own right [who] instilled the values in their children of hard work and discipline and giving back. From Harvard, Ms Jackson clerked for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, the liberal justice whose seat she now hopes to fill.
"I think it's fair to say that a lot of us are watching with a lot of excitement and pride to see her be nominated and watch her confirmation process." "For too long, our government, our courts haven't looked like America," the President said while announcing his pick.

Letting off lightly child sex offenders is her legacy. Just what Democrats like
You don’t even know her name .
Why couldn’t they pick a black judge based on merit? That’s because the Democrats are racist and don’t think black people could ever rise to such heights. All the wile forgetting about Clarence Thomas, but we know why as he’s a conservative.
I would much rather know about the political leanings and judgements of Australia's High Court. Why are we focused on the internal machinations of the US judicial system when we are so incapable of examining our own? auspol
Way to swap her middle and last name. What intern did this?
Too lenient on pedos much?
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that she was the best person for the job.
