Five things you should know about Joe Biden’s Supreme Court pick Ketanji Brown Jackson | FarrahTomazin

: Ketanji Brown Jackson is set to make history as the first black woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court in 233 years. But first she needs to get through an extensive three-day confirmation hearing in the Senate, where she’ll be grilled on her life, career and judicial record.

However, it was one of Jackson’s other uncles, Thomas Brown jnr, who made headlines recently for being sentenced to life in prison for a nonviolent cocaine conviction in 1989. Brown jnr was handed a severe punishment under what’s known as the “three strikes law”, which sentences people to life on their third offence.

Jackson’s work as a public defender has energised criminal justice reformers who believe that having a judge who has helped the legal system’s most vulnerable defendants is a good thing for the Supreme Court. However, several Republicans have indicated that they will be closely examining her work in this space.

Jackson worked for Breyer when he helped to strike down a Nebraska law that made it a felony to perform a so-called partial-birth abortion. The justices who made up the majority concluded that the law imposed an undue burden on the right to abortion.

FarrahTomazin And the reasons we as Australians should care

FarrahTomazin Another disgusting individual who goes easy on pedo's.

FarrahTomazin Here’s hoping she’s treated with considerably more respect, during her confirmation hearings, than Clarence Thomas was treated, all those years ago, by then Senator Biden.

FarrahTomazin No thanks, it’s woke American politics! Keep this cancer away from Australia 🙏
