Phone lines and internet connections are gradually being restored in the Gaza Strip after a blackout left the territory in darkness. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces that the country is entering the second stage of a challenging war against Hamas, which he refers to as Israel's second war of independence. The Hamas-run health ministry reports a death toll of 8,005 people in Gaza since October 7th, following Hamas's attack on Israeli civilians along the Gaza border.

Phone lines and internet connections were slowly returning to the Gaza Strip on Sunday after a blackout plunged the territory into darkness.

In a televised press conference, the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, told Israelis the country was entering 'the second stage' of what was likely to be a long and difficult war against Hamas, which he called Israel’s 'second war of independence'.
