Coalmine can go ahead as long as it pays to protect koalas and gliders

More than 90 per cent of the product from the Olive Downs mine will be metallurgical coal, which is used for steelmaking.

"It would seem to me it doesn't matter what the environmental values of the impact of the Olive Downs mine of the region. Like Adani, these mines get the go ahead regardless of the impact," he said.to others in the Galilee Basin. "It's a shame Pembroke and other companies see these propositions as good investments when they are simply just adding fuel to the fire of climate change.According to Pembroke, the steelmaking coal project is expected to generate about $5.5 billion in royalties for the Queensland Government over the life of the mine.

"We anticipate these to be granted in the coming months and look forward to construction and employment commencing shortly after this." Mayor of Isaac, Anne Baker, says the mine's approval and decades-long lifespan will provide a huge economic stimulus to Isaac.
