An Australian who was living in London says he ‘didn’t feel welcome’ to come home amid increased hostility to returned travellers.

He moved to the UK in August 2019 to live with Iida Korhonen, 22, his girlfriend of three and a half years who was accepted to study a Bachelor of Management and Marketing at the Royal Holloway University.

Mr Centofanti said it was a “difficult” process to return home to Australia even without a flight ban. To Mr Centofanti’s luck, two seats opened up on the flight in March so the couple flew into Darwin and quarantined in Howard Springs before returning to South Australia. Mr Centofanti described the public scrutiny towards returned travellers as “civilians turning against their fellow neighbours” and believed fear, education and not being able to relate was the cause.

Mr Centofanti, 24, said he was concerned about the public security of being a returned traveller. Picture: SuppliedPrime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Tuesday that flights arriving from India would be suspended until May 15 as the country grapples with its growing outbreak of COVID-19 cases. His decision has left up to 9,000 Australians stuck in India.

As an Australian he should fully recognize the absolute need to protect the Australian population. This is not Boris's UK where we hung out our vulnerable to die. It is his 100% responsibility to also protect Australia & he should understand we can only safely bring people slowly

Because returning overseas travelers have been the only source of outbreaks which have cost local businesses and the economy billions. Don’t talk to me about sympathy, empathy etc.

Some would wish that’s all they have to deal with.

The poor delicate petal.

“Stuck” overseas for a whole year 🤔. Sounds like you need a new travel agent pal

Poor baby , woman up!!

Have a cry, sunshine.

What hostility?

I mean who cares? What kind of journalism is this? That’s her perception?! Was that really the case? Probably not! The world has far bigger problems than some gap year student feeling she was hard done by! Get real and report some real news for a change!! 😡😡
