Competition watchdog chairman Rod Sims has pledged to name and shame retailers that are resorting to price-gouging for
Already, more than 40 test suppliers, pharmacies and big retailers have been asked to explain their pricing of rapid kits, along with wholesale costs and stock availability.More than 1800 reports from the public have been received since Christmas Day and the ACCC is receiving an average of 150 reports each day.More than 870 reports received had been about pharmacies, accounting for 47 per cent of all complaints.
Since January 7, the average and the highest prices reported to the ACCC have increased to about $24, and $80 to $100, respectively.
Name & shame the politicians who failed to anticipate basic demand for tests posts lockdown. N&S the PM who tells everyone to take personal reaponsibility while distributing free RATS to his MP’s after requisitioning supply. Everything else is just normal supply & demand outcomes
Greed gets in the way of the greater good for public health. Effectively these people are complicent in people dying and spreading the virus because can’t afford to be tested
Thank goodness for the photo. I was wondering what a RAT looked like.
We’ll, go on, do it
Isn't it standard government policy to pay 5 times as much for anything they contract out? Does the ACCC look at any government contracts?
The Broadway shopping centre pharmacy charged me $82!!!!
Name and shame. Yeah fkn right. They can charge whatever the fk they want. Simple supply and demand. Why don’t you name the guy up the rd who sold his house for $2m over reserve. Same same.
Then Name and shame the govt, Everywhere else they are free.
Naming and shaming such an effective deterrent to bad behaviour, isn’t that right Gerry Harvey?
And we call that PROFITEERING. Disgraceful.
igaAustralia $43.95.
So is the furniture store selling RATs for at least 3 times what they paid for them (not counting any Federal Govt money they probably paid for them with) actually profiteering more than the servo who sells them with 100% mark-up?
political_alert Market working. Blame ScottyDoesNothing & his merry blunderers for creating this outcome. It’s why publichealth can’t be left to the forces of supply & demand. Hold your ire in reserve for ausvotes2022 when you can put it to action & VoteOutTheLNP auspol covid19aus
political_alert Oooh! They must be shaking in their designer boots!
political_alert This must be that can-do capitalism Scott was talking about before
Named and shamed but tangible no action taken?
political_alert I’ve seen them for $99
Supply and demand 🙃
Should be name, shame and fine.
Good that this will be done, but it is a bit late so many people had no access to test kits and couldn't pay these ridiculous prices. These businesses have already made so much money from people's misfortune😡
Oh, whatever will they do. Named and shamed. How will they recover. Oh the humanity. Toothless tiger.
