Rural and regional Australians are set to tell a federal review committee that they feel like second-class citizens because their mobile phone coverage is virtually 'non-existent'.

Cowra stock and station agent Damien Stephenson said mobile phone connectivity was vital for his job and for many farmers.

"It is all very well having access to mobile data but being able to take phone calls from clients is an absolute necessity for my work," Mr Stephenson said. Mike Maroum, Telstra's regional general manager for northern NSW, said the team was focussed on improving services and coverage, particularly in towns and on highways.

He said Telstra was one of three companies providing mobile phone services, including Optus and Vodaphone.

it's not just rural. My fully paid for business services of 3 years were illegally disconnected and were not connected for 4 1/ 2 days. there is no compensation. telstra is in total disarray whilst Andy penn boasts increased returns for shareholders.

We are not in Third World Country yet our Telco especially Telstra is a total sham and Copout. Their services are only effective in CBD areas and gets weaker and less the further you go, even in Metropolitan areas by area they are absolutely useless. Where is the Ombudsman
