A wildlife volunteer rescuer rehabilitating traumatised, orphaned koalas has asked people to help bring about justice to those responsible for causing the deaths of at least 40 koalas.

Volunteer wildlife carers are bringing in branches of eucalyptus while vets are inspecting sick turtles and other animals that litter her front room.

A portable building at the front of her property is filled with washing baskets containing injured koalas. Some are too weak to move and are being rehydrated by volunteers using syringes. Others have been hooked up to intravenous drips.Almost all the koalas were in shock and dehydrated when they were brought in, she said, and many young ones had been orphaned.

"They were terrified, they were hungry, they didn't know where they were or where all the [other koalas] had gone," she said.

'It is a crime, it is cruel': Victoria's Environment Minister 'angry' over koala deaths in blue gum plantationVictoria's Environment Minister describes the deaths of at least 40 koalas at a blue gum plantation in the state's south-west as a crime, vowing to bring to account those responsible. Let's see if anyone in the Vict Govt is angry enough to prosecute someone - including the plantation owners, not just the workers following instructions. In a pre social media time this would have been successfully covered up. This activity has been quietly accepted for decades in rural areas like Portland. Not anymore. Wow. The minister is angry. Quick, send another donation.

Farmer defends himself following dozens of koala deaths in VictoriaThe deaths of dozens of koalas during logging operations at a private property in Victoria’s south-west are being investigated. We care too much for these things. It seems we transfer our concern because we feel impotent in the face of more angular and direct decisions to do with global warming: if it's only bears we can handle that with a sort of relocation. I think there is a set-up ... Knowingly killing the koalas simply has no defence. Incompetent and negligence, no excuse for their actions only laziness, apathy for the wildlife and liability

Daniel Andrews' stern warning to land owners after 'terrible' koala logging deathsVictorian Premier Daniel Andrews has warned the owners of land where dozens of koalas are understood to have died that it's not up to them to decide whether or not they have done 'the wrong thing'. You left 'tidal' from in front of the word 'wave'. After the loss of thousands of koalas in the bushfires, the bulldozing of trees with koalas in them is nothing short of an act of sheer bastardry. Let this be a klaxon call to any landholder with koalas on their property. JusticeMatters Wishing gov luck in this endeavour. Then who is it up to? Who didn’t do their job?

‘Koala massacre’ leaves up to 500 dead at Vic plantation | Sky News AustraliaUp to 500 koalas could have been killed during a land clearing exercise at a bluegum plantation near Portland in western Victoria. \n\nThe plantation had been harvested last year, but bulldozers have been present in recent weeks clearing what’s remaining of the trees and, in the process, koala habitat.\n\nA distraught local who filmed the area said “look at the destruction they’ve done”.\n\n“There’s a koala lying there dead,” she said.\n\n“Australia should be ashamed of this.” Money over lives! Just disgusting and No attempt to relocate these animals ! God knows the wildlife of Australia need a helping hand and then you get these cretins bulldoze more into the ground. What wasn't seen was the graphic shots of Koalas 🐨 being smashed up in these trees We need a reporter with integrity to investigate this and report to the public the details of the land clearing arrangement, including releasing names. I can’t fathom how a ‘civilised’ society can stay silent when 🐨 are killed because we place a higher value on plantation timber We need less Environmental red tape regulation, they are just a company trying to make a living and can't be held accountable for Koalas that die in their trees. sarcastic humanfilth
