The clinical director of the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, Cheyne Flanagan, called for"heads to roll" over the plantation deaths.
"The Victorian Government has handed over management of koalas in blue gum plantations to the blue gum industry — that just doesn't compute," Ms Flanagan said. The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital has sent three vets to Victoria to assist local teams attempting to save the koalas injured at the plantation."It's not the first time, obviously not in this magnitude, but the issues have been going on with the blue gum plantations for many years," she said.
"They do have spotters and yes, koalas can be difficult to sight at times, but there are repeated deaths and heads have got to roll over this." The deaths were condemned by the Australian Forest Products Association, with chief executive Ross Hampton saying he was"appalled" at what appeared to be a"callous act of animal cruelty".
Guarantee that nobody will get charged for this
LilyDAmbrosioMP you must investigate and prosecute!!!
On your watch buddy
Fake anger ... just for cover up. If she doesn’t knew that properties after properties with trees are being bulldozed off, while animals still living in them, she shouldn’t be a environment minister. She should resign for citing moral reason.
It happens every day of the week.
Tougher fines and logging bans required. The pitiful excuse for fines makes a mockery of wildlife conservation. Loggers should at minimum fund full expenses for the breading program to rehabilitate koala population and land permanently confiscated and returned to nature.
DanTehanWannon where the bloody hell you and what are you allowing to happen in your electorate? AuspolSoCorrupt auspol

Australians & Victorians SHOULD be angry! This news has been AWFULL. Makes a mockery of the faux sentimentally koala-pics that litter social media. Very warped that we can gush over pics of animals in social media but let this happen to them under our noses 😢
VIC has been in cahoot with the loggers We have lost 6mils hectares of forest n logging is still going on because of an old contract pre bushfires
It was probably Bridget McKenzie
FatherBob Message to Victoria’s Environment Minister, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio... it is great that you are so angry as very many Australians are over this cruel, callous cowardly act carried out by ignorant morons, but please tell us all what you plan to do about it? Criminal charges?
The death of the Koalas is the only crime being committed
If you where the Australian ,,,the real ones of this land ,,,just know the koalas are put first ,, because they were listed by the royals ,,,to be protected,,,first upon this land ,,, before the natives ,that were not worthy of this land ,according to the first and todays convict
Our LNP/dictatorship government will simply make it illegal to report animal cruelty... and 48% of our population will agree with them according to the latest popularity poll.
South West Fibre sound like a good company. Competent Professional Environment friendly NP members or followers.
Confiscate the land and turn it into a wildlife refuge. Make this the penalty for clearing wildlife habitats.
But! That goes against capitalism? Growth n' jobs(for Indians). Here is one of the Greens contradictions, they want both open borders and protection of wildlife/ environment. Pick one as you cannot have both.
Stop logging
Why do an investigation? Ms Flanagan has already decided who the culprits are without use of any evidence to support her claim.
The directors of the company should be convicted.
The rich men will be protected for sure.
😢
At least they could have rehomed them! auspol KoalaMassacre
Angry enough to do Environment Misters JOB. Protect, protected animals & food security. or just angry sneaky bastards used bulldozers & some one reported. Animal cruelty.
Wow. The minister is angry. Quick, send another donation.
In a pre social media time this would have been successfully covered up. This activity has been quietly accepted for decades in rural areas like Portland. Not anymore.
Let's see if anyone in the Vict Govt is angry enough to prosecute someone - including the plantation owners, not just the workers following instructions.
