The Opposition says its plan to develop a network of gas pipelines in Northern Australia will create thousands of jobs.

Speaking in the Queensland city of Gladstone on Tuesday, Labor Leader Bill Shorten pledged $1.5 billion for onshore gas pipeline development.

He says the pipeline development will ‘help keep the manufacturing jobs going’ in Darwin, southeast Australia and Queensland. The Opposition Leader says he is stopped in the street by people who are astounded by high gas prices when Australia is so gas-rich. Image: News Corp Australia
