People in China's Xinjiang region shout to be let out of their apartments, as the backlash against a strict coronavirus lockdown in several cities across China's far west grows.

"We should grit our teeth, be not afraid of fatigue, and fight continuously to ensure that the prevention and control requirements are not relaxed," Mr Chen said in a recent speech.
