Mark McGowan ramps up his criticism of the federal government's approach to China, labeling comments from senior ministers as 'insane' and 'absolute madness'.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has launched a stinging attack on the federal government's attitude towards China, labeling comments from senior ministers as "insane" and "off the planet".WA's economy remains deeply reliant on trade with the Asian nationMr McGowan's comments come a day after Prime Minister Scott Morrison called for international bodies like the World Trade Organisation to be strengthened, to push back against China's increasingly assertive behaviour.

The relationship between Australia and China has soured dramatically in recent years, with a series of spats leading Beijing to put tariffs on multiple Australian products and halt dialogue. Home Affairs Department Secretary Mike Pezzullo warned earlier this year "the drums of war are beating", while Defence Minister Peter Dutton has said a conflict with China "should not be discounted".Mr McGowan has previously criticised that attitude and today blasted the Commonwealth's handling of China, less than 24 hours after discussing it at a meeting with Mr Morrison in Perth.

At mean time, sky news rocks in all conspiracy on china like WION. No clue what your interest is….

The Liberal Party has been hijacked by far right wing climate change denying, Trump era rhetoric spouting nut jobs. It’s fair enough to not rely so much on China but starting a war with them during a global pandemic?

auspol G7Summit

scottymustgo should not be poking the bear 🙄

And since you raised the stakes with the war rhetoric, just remember Premier, if there is a war, you can be as sure as eggs they will come for the iron ore and the coal. Only nuclear-tipped cruise missiles will be a deterrent - not kowtowing from you.

wj_du 👍👍👍!

WA needs to look at diversifying trade with other nations and not relying so much on China for the WA economy. The CCP would not hesitate to drop Aus trade as soon as they find an alternative source.

Unfortunately our Labour Premier has gone off reservation. I don't believe any federal govt politician has used the war rhetoric, certainly not Morrison. Face facts Premier, appeasement never works. With your military background you should know better than to stick up for the CCP

ScottMorrisonMP MarisePayne and SenatorCash are total fools when it comes to diplomacy…..they appear to be quite willing to take Australia to war….incredible!

Nobody honestly cares what Mao McCoward thinks.

markcentricview

I’m seeing a lot of Morrison bots popping in to this thread.

Scomo is like Trump can’t wait for war

McGowan is off the Planet. Better he fix the hospital situations before criticizing others about anything

No vested interest there😎

He is correct. At this rate ScottytheChildAbuser will start a war with China

While the farmers the national party and trade Union the nff voice 🦗🦗🦗🦗

对,澳大利亚必须离开地球

Did Scott Morrison just suggest China is a threat to freedom of our press? Is that the same Scott Morrison who leads a govt of the most obstructive FoI process; secretive reports mis-labelled to be kept from public view; several MP's suing for defamation etc? No shame, this bloke

And yet Australia's economy is even better than when we upset China, go figure

Did you say it to Scott's face he is looking for war and it is australia standing in the way of making mends to China.

“It's absolute madness it's absolutely off the planet.” Yes it is. Much like WA’s locked border policy. StrandedAussies

Haha off course he will, WA’s survives on China, instead of mouthing off he should see it as a wake up call and look at ways to be less dependent on one country for WA revenue.

He’s 100% correct these clowns have no idea ! Every time they open there mouths it cost business & jobs ‘basically just not smart enough, no sense of reading a situation.

We are in the right path to break up with China.

If ScoMo is gone, Peter Dutton will be the PM. Australia will then sign a military agreement with US to allow 1 Million US troops to settle in Australia permanently. Then you will see drunk US soldiers chasing girls on streets just like a few weeks ago in S Korea.

Feds have no idea how to be diplomatic. Basically they have ruined our trade relations and are causing major issues with our cash cow. This alone should lose them votes in the mining sector.

Thank God there are still few wiser men or politicians in Australia speaking the truth.

Don't trust WA, WA is Asshole

Honestly, have any of you read the PM's speeches or statements. They are pretty benign flag waving exercises, no different to what NZ is doing. You are being sucked into the media and Labor Party beat up, trying to create friction where there is none. Which does create friction.

Good to see McClown is still willing to get on his knees to please the Chinese. And all you other Chinese lovers. Why should we not stand up to the Chinese who think they can bully countries who don't do as they say. About time someone stood up to them rather then be pussies

USA providing AU military power in a treaty. AU providing covid evacuees to New Guinea. China giving aid to underdeveloped nations. Are people implying when someone gives something out of kindness, you shouldn't feel a kinship towards them? Why is it different when China do it?

Absolutely. The LNPDisgrace government is completely bizarre and irrational.

I'm no fan of China but the Diplomacy of the current federal govt is awful. Australia needs to be diversifying trade with a range of countries. When/if China finds a better source of iron ore they will drop us without hesitation

Political disagreements have been used before, to disrupt the momentum of economic progress. Obama's pivot to the East was not entirely devoid of opportunism. 2 superpowers achieved little in central Asia. President Xi's BRI is vital to establishing normal economic activity.

Good on him! Most ethnic Europeans like to undermine non-Europeans. Look at what they have done to us natives!

I've been crowing about the ChinaBashing for months but so long as the share price stays up ScoMo wins. Its insane! Down the track when markets dry up it will be a different story.

So another words we should just shut the F..up and let China tell us what to do in our own country....Wow that is the attitude of so called Leader, imagine there is a proper War this kind of Politicians will straight away sign Capitulation

nothing to do with their best income stream......?

MarkMcGowanMP this is not the time to turn into a quisling son. If you cannot see the national perils we are facing you are blind. We will not live on our knees Mark, whether you were born here or over east - try to understand the courage it took to build this state

Seriously if you people don’t think China has a hidden agenda your kidding yourselves. Why the buying up and throw money at South Pacific nations they can’t pay back. They play a long game and that game is ramping up. WA premier is worried his income will dry up.

Good him his spot on

No doubt Morrison has taken over Donald Trump's role in the QAnon group. -- total conspiracy theory (learnt from Morrison.)

F—k China

is this really that controversial

All I want to know is, WTF is Scotty up to?

Good on M McGowan, all the PM is doing is throwing fuel on the fire for political gain, at the expense of businesses and workers

People like morrison and trump, that have never served in the military or outright cowards ( trump ) always are ones shouting the odds safe in the knowledge they won't be in cooee when the going gets tough now their nearest and dearest

He’s just concerned about his tinpot boom and bust economy, that he has no control over!!

Unfortunately I have to agree with him

He is only one of handful politicians who have Australian interest at heart. This stupid pursuit of chains bashing does not help anyone including our exporters. MarkMcGowanMP

He knows which side his bread is buttered.

Japan shows it’s a ‘strong ally’ of Australia by supporting pushback against China | Sky News AustraliaSky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says Japan is showing it is a “strong ally” of Australia by supporting pushback against China, particularly for it’s bans on Australian goods. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison has always said China’s bans on Australian goods should be adjudicated within the World Trade Organisation and will have the chance to make his case at the G7 summit, according to Mr Greenwood. \n\n“He’s certainly assisted and aided in this by not only the United States … but also by Japan, again giving assistance to Australia and saying … there’s got to be pushback against China, against its taking over of islands and parts of the South China Sea,” he said. \n\n“But also, when it comes to dealing with trade with Australia. \n\n“Japan, by doing this, clearly again is showing itself to be a strong ally of Australia right now and this is key if Australia is to get itself back on track with China … in terms of trade”. \n Ross_Greenwood More MurdochGutterMedia crap! 💩 Ross_Greenwood Did Biden know he was in the video conference?
