Breaking: New Zealand will urgently ban the sale of all semi-automatic rifles

The country will also ban assault rifles and high capacity magazines, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Thursday.

The government has also immediately implemented a stop-over measure that will keep the weapons being sold until the new laws can be implemented. The announcement comes as the bullet-riddled Al Noor mosque in Christchurch underwent repairs ahead of Friday prayers and grieving families buried more victims of New Zealand's worst mass shooting.Ardern also announced that Friday's call to prayers for Muslims will be broadcast nationally and there will be a two minute silence.

"We will have a heightened presence tomorrow in order to provide reassurance to people attending the Friday call for prayers," police said in a statement on Thursday. Most victims were migrants or refugees from countries such as Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Somalia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

She is only banning 'military style' semi-auto's like AR-15's. These were already illegal in Australia BEFORE Howard's National Firearms Agreement. Ardern is only bringing NZ's gun laws to where they were in Australia BEFORE Port Arthur.

jacindaardern is using Rahm Emmanuel’s playbook to make a power grab. She will come to regret it. Just watch what has happened to her generations of politicians from Cameron to Trudeau. They are typically fake and principally challenged.

and as in Australia it'll be the law abiding shooters/owners that hand them in......

LowElsielow54 Pistols? Rifles? Shotguns?

news_australian Great news but 50 deaths too late. jacindaardern neglected to address this issue when coming into office & should resign immeditely as she must share some culpability for this tragedy.

Would have thought NZ had the same gun laws as Australia. Sad it has to take an event for change. Buy back a good idea to decrease numbers.

Congrats NZ

the planet needs these guidelines, but the crazy Yanks will never give up their guns
