Officers were called to Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital after receiving reports a man had been attacked by a nurse on nightshift yesterday. Detectives interviewed other hospital workers and patients while collecting evidence for forensic examination.The 50-year-old was taken in handcuffs to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with attempt to strangle/suffocate with intent to murder, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Police say the man pushed a pillow into the face of an 80-year-old man and pinned him down with force before a colleague intervened. The alleged victim suffered a cut to his arm during the incident and is being monitored closely by doctors
