The Central Land Council fears unvaccinated Aboriginal communities will be left unprotected as the NT government sets a key mandatory double vaccination deadline of December 24.

The Central Land Council fears unvaccinated Aboriginal communities will be left unprotected as the Northern Territory government sets a key mandatory double vaccination deadline of December 24.It says it is unlikely that communities in the Barkly and Central Australia will make the deadline given vaccine hesitancy out bush

It says that there should have been more consultation with land councils and Aboriginal health organisationsrevealed its timeline for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for high-risk workers today with Chief Minister Michael Gunner directing people in public-facing jobs to be fully vaccinated by Christmas Eve or face $5,000 fines.

Mr Gunner also issued a stern warning to a handful of remote Indigenous communities, directing residents to get vaccinated. The announcement has frustrated Les Turner, CEO of the Central Land Council , saying there was no consultation and the time frame did not give Indigenous communities enough time to reach the 80 per cent vaccinated target."They should engage with the land councils and the Aboriginal medical services of the NT in terms of where the government is heading.

Mr Turner said the Chief Minister should look at why some communities have impressive vaccination rates, such as Kintore in the Western Desert, where 70 to 80 per cent of the community is double jabbed."The doctors met with all the family groups and explained about vaccinations and all the issues around it."

'They say we live in a lucky country. I beg to differ': Inside the Aboriginal housing divideAboriginal housing tenants in one regional community are locked in a tense standoff with their local land council over what they describe as years of neglect. Homes are built. Then most of the tenants go out of their way to totally demolish the house. Then expect the gov't to fix it. Tenants need to be made responsible for all damage done or be evicted. A real eye opener is to see these houses being built with Perspex windows (so they can't be broken). It takes a lot more money to built special purpose houses so that particular tenants can't totally wreck them as soon as they move in.

New York must allow religious exemptions to COVID-19 vaccine mandate, judge rulesA US judge has ruled that New York state cannot impose a COVID-19 vaccine mandate on healthcare workers without allowing for religious exemption requests. There is no religious exemption. There are vaccines available that didn't use the cell lines in question. It will be interesting to see how the US courts handle this. I’m glad as least our Australian govts are doing right thing not being this stupidity to the offical level. That US Judge is going to get overruled by a higher court in 3… 2… 1…
