EXCLUSIVE: mattcunningham reveals the cash-strapped Northern Territory Government is under fire over a deal to pay for the flights of competitors coming to Darwin for a sporting competition. 2600SkyNews

The cash-strapped Northern Territory Government is under fire over a deal to pay for the flights of competitors coming to Darwin for a sporting competition.

The Government refused to say who the sponsor was or how many flights had been offered, but it’s understood about 50 athletes will fly to Darwin for free. “To achieve this, through a sponsorship deal with Jetstar Asia, and the generosity of a Gold Arafura Games sponsor, some athletes have received complimentary flights,” she said in a statement.

“There are no incentives for them to come here and compete, our budget is purely designed to run the Games venues and competition,” Mr Vowles said last year.“The Territory Government actually said that they wouldn’t be sponsoring or paying for people to come to the games, they’ve already blown the budget. This is not on,” she said.

The Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC will use her International Women's Day address to query the phrase and whether it bears any relevance in modern society. The 50/50 m/f requirement institutionalises discrimination by ensuring selection is based on factors that have nothing to do with quals & experience, such as selected candidate can’t have a penis.
