The government said the one-year masters would be made available to those wanting to enter high-school classrooms by next year, and primary school classrooms from 2026.
Despite saying the two-year program "hasn't had any tangible benefits when it comes to student outcomes", Ms Mitchell said the two-year course was necessary at the time. "There is evidence that this will have a detrimental impact on teaching quality, and hence student outcomes, in these key areas." Angelo Gavrielatos said the state government should concentrate on improving working conditions to boost numbers.
Pay them what they are worth and give them better conditions. Problem solved.
As teaching becomes more and more complex I’m not sure hothousing teachers is the solutions
Ah, the old Dip Ed. Might help some transition from other careers?
There is no room for intelligence in the education system, just compliance
You mean the bar can be lower? Fuck.. next we will just dress up mannequins and call them teachers
What a stupid idea to send teachers wildly unqualified to teach.
May as well cut it to 6 months to align with the amount of time they work per year
An incredibly challenging and complex job, teachers need recognition and support not diminished standards. Undertrained staff will be a burden for other teachers to manage.
Yep, because our teachers are definitely good enough alrasdy?
Will they cut study time for 'aspiring doctors?' What could go wrong? 🤦
Bahaha they literally have no clue at all- similar thing done over in UK and it is a flop. Don’t address the main issues, just try to cover the fact that teachers are leaving in droves😂
So back to what it was 20 yrs ago? OK.
Thank God there’s an election looming!
So back to a Grad Dip? Despite the compelling arguments that caused the change from Grad Dip to Masters but a few short years ago?
Is one year enough time to learn all the pronouns that they need to teach their children?
Let’s plug the leak with warm bodies rather than apply effort to making sure students get quality education. Yeah… not great thinking there folks.
Great idea! You heavy too have an undergraduate so one year is fantastic
So will you also cut training time to address shortages of doctors?
I'm currently at the end of my post grad in teaching and this is an awful idea. 2 years full time nearly burnt me out, the content is delievered so fast you almost forget you learnt it. We also don't get as many hours contact time as those studying in a bachelors as well.
I have no idea if this will help, but at least schools will have extra staff. In saying that in most professions on the job training is more important anyway. Hopefully, the schools senior staff will be supportive and not throw the new starters straight into the deep end.
I followed this path in Qld over 30 years ago. It gives you very little practical time before you’re teaching and unless your school has a very good mentoring program it’s potentially disastrous.
When they break down in front of a class of 30 because they lack the skills and experience who will they sue? Recipe for disaster for them AND their students! auspol education
Remove the requirement for a degree, half their wage and double the staff. Nobody thinks you're doing a great job.
Some teachers have no real life experience and having staff with a different perspective should be encouraged into the profession.
Lol, what could go wrong?
REVOLUTIONATY!! Nobody has ever thought of this before! Is this a world first? How did nobody ever think of this before? Incredible!!!
Seriously Smaller classes, SLSO in all rooms and remove HECS. After 27 years in school admin I've seen the grads come out of the 2yr program some are great but some you have to wonder how they passed, a 2yr program isn't long enough for them, changing to 1 year is disastrous!
What are they thinking?
🙃🙃🤦♀️🤷♀️
what could possibly go wrong
Pass by attendance 51%
What a ridiculous idea. Let's send in underqualified people into one of the most heavily scrutinised professions. If you think education is bad now under NSW LNP, it's about to get worse if they win the election in March.
Reduce the quality lol. So Im a drunken, wife beating, grapist and was wondering if I can sign up for a teachers degree? I like kids. I like the way there bum wiggles? Can I sign up?
'NSW promises to make things worse if re-elected in March'
Hope this takes on in WA, graduate nursing programs have been implanted here and we’ve seen some successfully offered a 2nd year to hone vital skills and some offered permanent places on wards. Making use of layering qualifications to suit economic times just makes sense.
Hmmm, how about paying them more or getting rid of their HECS...
