Breaking: A Sydney hotel quarantine guard has contracted coronavirus from an international traveller staying at the Marriott Hotel in Circular Quay, NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant has revealed | Kaubo

The case sets off a new potential chain of transmission in Australia that is genetically divergent from the Victoria-derived cases that triggered Sydney's second-wave clusters, including the Crossroads Hotel and the Thai Rock restaurants.

Within 30 hours of learning the COVID-positive guard had worked at the quarantine hotel, his virus had been sequenced, and anyone who worked or stayed at the Marriott during the guard's shifts were also tested. Police and NSW Health personnel were reviewing CCTV footage and conducting interviews with everyone at the hotel during the guard's shifts to uncover the chain of transmission. The traveller had tested positive on August 2, Dr Chant said.Police Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker said the case was concerning.

Police working at the hotel have been tested and returned negative results. Half of the contracted security guards have so far been tested and all found negative, Assistant Commissioner McCusker said.

Kaubo Did the guard work at the Adina quarantine apartment before that? Someone was having a bad cough there.

Kaubo he is just 1 of 1000s casual workers working in 3 different jobs so they spread covid Just like in aged care It should be banned

Kaubo It’s clear that Gladys is behind the 8 ball. Working shifts at different sites is a direct consequence of the casualisation of the workforce. People need job security to meet basic needs. Acknowledge this first & fix it. Cross site work re covid should NOT be happening.

Kaubo No room for this as a story today?

Kaubo GladysB well done you idiot

Kaubo Was the premier there when the minister announced this or was she doing a Scotty and disappearing when things go wrong?

Kaubo This is far worse than Victoria considering what is known about what happened in Victoria SackGladys

Kaubo Dan’s fault

Kaubo Stop it 🙄

Kaubo

Kaubo Will Gladys' head be on the proverbial chopping block along with Dan's? Thought not. Funny about that.

Kaubo Why the fk are they staying in 5 star hotels in the cbd. Ship them to the desert. I swear our governments are dumb sh its.

Kaubo Wow! NSWHealth didn’t use security guards that were infected like Victoria did they? Hello Australian media? Come get them! covidnsw resigngladys

Kaubo Illusion of control. This infection will spread and that’s good no way of stopping it. Just let it go and go on with life.

Kaubo

Kaubo why the fk are we using private security guards!!! 🥴🥴🥴

Kaubo We are seeing cases linked to quarantine because of inappropriate training of security guards. Shortcuts have been taken by employing untrained/casual staff for the most imp role in suppressing the virus. IStillCallAustraliaHome

Kaubo From a Victorian all i can say is 😂😂😂😂😂

Kaubo Then stop bringing fking international travelers back to Sydney with the virus. Same with Melbourne. FFS we’re an island country yet we can’t keep it out.

jaquix173 Kaubo If Morrison did his damn job and took control of quarantine with ADF this would not be happening.

Kaubo This is what Costello’s TheAge/smh wrote about the Melbourne hotel quarantine security guards. How is it that they didn’t manage to report lies this time? auspol TheAgeOfCorruption LNPLickspittle

Kaubo How's the new quarantine station going?

Kaubo Traveller. We’re basically throwing ourselves on the mercy of our home country because we have no options elsewhere. That’s not traveling. It’s one step up from seeking asylum. IStillCallAustraliaHome and would be very grateful SMH if you’d not call me a “traveler”. Thank you.

Kaubo Surely the words debacle and bungle are missing from this headline?

Kaubo Dan shouldn’t have told the non-ADF security guard to have sex with the international traveller in quarantine

Kaubo But I thought no other state used security guards?

Kaubo There goes NSW.... sad

Kaubo Pot. Kettle. NSW HotelQuarantine SecurityGuards Gladys Maybe if scottythesaviour hadn't spent all his energy attacking our premier IStandWithDan instead worked with states to eradicate coronavirus Oh that's right, Scotty is too busy preaching to his Pentecostal sheep.

Kaubo TimSmithPM Mate you've got to have a shot at Chairman Dan for this one, Jesus what's he doing stuffing up guards at NSW Hotels as well!! Reprehensible behaviour.

Kaubo Note: a private security guard. Contrary to popular belief, the ADF is not providing hotel security to Sydney quarantine hotels.

Kaubo Was the guard is wearing a PPE ? I hope all of the workers in quarantine facilities are wearing a PPE.

Kaubo Well, well, well. NSW? Morrisons home state.

Kaubo Was the guard following covid safety guidlines? Was he equipped with proper PPE? 50 International arrival is not an issue for a country connected to rest of world. Unless we are North Korea. Management and competence is the issue here!

Kaubo I hope he wasn't sleeping with the quests like Dan Andrews hotel quarantine guards were.

Kaubo Ought to ban anyone coming from the US especially Trump

Kaubo Only 3 posi’s though🤦🏻‍♂️ lol!! Yeah right
