Chris Minns,Eraring Power Station

The NSW government has signed a deal with Origin Energy to operate the coal-fired Eraring Power Station until August 2027.

Premier Chris Minns announced the agreement on Thursday as the state government has attempted to exit coal-fired power.

Under the agreement, Origin Energy will not receive upfront payment from the state government but an underwriting agreement has been established to share profits and losses. “I said before the election if extending Eraring is required to keep the lights on in NSW, we'd do it,” Minns said.
