NSW floods: NSW government expected to make disaster declaration

French ambassador Jean-Pierre Thebault says his nation trusts Australia under the Albanese government, following the “unfortunate events” last year surrounding the torn up submarine contract.

Thebault said the two countries’ relations were on an “excellent” road to recovery, with France keen for military and defence co-operation to resume at “full speed”.“We are both committed in the Indo-Pacific. We [have] both very close interests, with very close abilities to cooperate in the region, and we need to further develop that.

“This is a great sector where we have [in] both countries the ambition to develop very, very concrete actions and there will be some announcements coming in the future weeks and months.” “The difference that was existing some months ago was not between Australia and France or between the Australian and the French. It was a question of attitude, it was a question of how you treat an ally.
