'No race mixing': Why Alice Pung was not surprised by 'creepy' note left on her car

Alice Pung was eight months pregnant with her first child when her car was leafleted outside Bunnings in Port Melbourne. But what she found was an image of a white girl and black boy hugging with a slash across it and the words: “No race mixing”.

Eighty-two percent of surveyed Asian Australians have experienced discrimination, according to a study conducted ahead of the first Asian-Australian leadership summit in Melbourne this week. “He recently topped the state in English,” his boss replied. Mr Li, who was born in Australia, says prejudices are not necessarily born out of malice but people making judgements based on appearance. But Australian Racial Discrimination Commissioner Chin Tan says they are seriously under-represented in senior leadership positions.

"The findings of this survey are a stark illustration of the challenges faced by Asian-Australians in our society - and particularly in the workplace," Mr Evans says.

That is SAD to hear that it happens at all

“...I’ll take ‘things that never happened’ for $200 thanks Alex.

Race mixing... does that include British/Australian; USA/Australian; New Zealand/Australian? You really have to question the IQ of someone who could pen such a note. Have to ask if it was written in crayon on butcher paper?

I went to a job interview with a chinese woman frm my employment agency for Jobactive. We went to a chinese restaurant for a position in the kitchen there. The employer just wasn't interested, but she was convinced I'd get the job. Me: pssst they dont hire white people Her:

But has she been called a terrorist!

There's always uneducated bogans around who will do/say such stupid things. BUT years ago while new in Melbourne I had a very bossy, racist Asian colleague who was very rude and got away with it. She hated me for having good command of the english language. 'We' are racists too.

There is micro-agression that is also experienced, yet i hope with the outcome (of this report) people will take upon themselves to rethink their actions when interacting with others around them.
