Tasmania's Public Health Director has warned a ban on dancing in venues could be in place for 12 months, leaving would-be clubgoers and venue owners 'devastated'.

Venue operators have hit out at Tasmania's ban on dancing when people have been given the all clear to play sport or see a sex worker.Nightclub owners are disappointed and say social distancing is possibleTasmania's Public Health director Mark Veitch yesterday said dancing in nightclubs and bars will be one of the last coronavirus restrictions lifted.

He cited the experience in Melbourne and Auckland's latest outbreaks in deciding on what to do with restrictions. "What is the public health advice that says you can't dance when you can play full contact sports [or] see a sex worker?" he said."What it seems like is the hospitality industry is being picked on," Mr Vaughan said.His Observatory nightclub remains closed because of the no-dancing rule.

If you'd told me in 2019 that Tas will ban dancing I'd have been very confused. If you told me nsw banned it I would have been less suprised.
