Although the school’s new activewear will be branded with the college’s name and motto, students will be free to wear any combination of apparel they like.

It is already shaping up that way at Kingswood College, a 130-year-old Uniting Church school in Box Hill, which will ditch its longstanding uniform next year and replace it with activewear.

“I think what we’re doing is saying, what’s the most important thing here, the health and wellbeing and flourishing of young people, or is it them being able to look the same as their grandparents looked?” Ms Lenders said low activity levels among schoolchildren, combined with a rise in screen time, was a recipe for poor mental health and poor fitness.

Another standard lowered ... forever

So what. A school changes their uniform. Hardly earth shattering or important news.

Hilarious. A small but vocal portion of the student stoner population will be loving this

Meanwhile, it's kingswood college located in box hill. Those of us who were fortunate to attend BHSSC have benefited from no uniform for over 2 decades.

This is brilliant. Good work.

Before some marketing fashionista got hold of it, activewear was called a daggy tracksuit

Great idea to encourage kids to get more active . Never understood why we dress kids up like little adults

That’s a real shame. I always wore a blazer at public school and whilst the rule could be annoying at times like in warm weather, it gave a sense of pride and belonging.
