United Kingdom Health Secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed a “new variant” of the coronavirus has been identified across the nation. More than 1000 cases of the variant have already been identified.
“We’ve notified the World Health Organisation about this new variant and Public Health England is working hard to continue its expert analysis at Porton Down,” Mr Hancock said. He revealed, however, the latest clinical advice was it was “highly unlikely” the new mutation would not respond to a vaccine and at this point there was no indication it was likely to cause serious disease.
