Nearly a quarter of Australian women have experienced emotional abuse or coercive control by a partner, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The report reveals more than half of women who were emotionally abused were also physically or sexually abused by a partner.

Single parents, people with intellectual or psychological disabilities and those experiencing financial stress were the most likely to suffer emotional abuse from a partner. Close to 3.6 million Australians have reportedly experienced partner emotional abuse, according to the data.Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800
