"There is definite trust in apps produced by the banks, and it's not to say that the other apps aren't trustworthy and secure but there's a real trust that we can put behind the fact the banks have created this app," tech expert Trevor Long said.Beem It, like PayK, is a free app, but users are advised to check with their bank about possible transaction fees.

"The banks have always lagged behind but they've literally been pushed into this by the disruptive nature of these money apps," Mr Long said."If you're just at coffee and it's five minutes, it's fine, as someone has taken the money out pretty quickly, but if you're all pooling in for that office gift at work, what happens with that money?" he said.
